“I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile.” –Romans 1:16 NIV

“Brothers, my heart’s deepest desire and my prayer to God for Isra’el is for their salvation… For the goal at which the Torah aims is the Messiah, who offers rightousness to everyone who trusts.” –Romans 10:1, 4 CJB

The Lord is calling his chosen people to him during Behold Your God: Israel, Jews for Jesus‘ effort to evangelize in Israel. Here are some prayer requests and some of the ways He has been moving:

Some very important prayer requests:

  1. Pray for our staff to be able to keep up with the growing follow-up effort. So far, we have over 800 Israelis who have indicated an interest to hear more from us about Y’shua. Seven Israelis are new believers, three of whom prayed to receive the Lord in a visit with staff doing the follow-up.
  2. We have heard from two sources that the ultra-orthodox may hold a protest march in front of our hotel tomorrow (Thursday). We read an article on one of their websites today, which calls for increased action to be taken against us, though a protest march was not mentioned. Pray for our wisdom in handling whatever may take place.
  3. Also on Thursday we’ll be doing evangelism at two big events: a concert of Russian music in the park that should draw 50,000 people and the annual Student Day at a major university. Pray that God blesses us with many opportunities to talk with people about Y’shua.
  4. There have been several flare-ups with anti-missionaries lately and we are re-evaluating some of our strategies for dealing with this opposition. Please continue to pray for wisdom for the leadership team, and that God will be glorified in all things.

Some of the blessings:

  1. Bimini approached a chasid named Joseph who had read the New Testament. He listened with great interest and said it’s very possible that Jesus could be the Messiah. He didn’t give his contact information, but said, “God bless you” when she left. She also met Avi and Avlina, who had gotten a NT in the mail. They read it daily and really like it. They were proud to report that this morning they had read Matthew, chapter six! They gave their information for follow-up contact.
  2. Tom did calling today and reached a man named Israel Goldstein. When asked if he had interest in the NT, he said, “I have a Christian friend—your president…George Bush. I knew him in Texas 27 years ago. Out of respect for him I’d like a NT.” He wondered if Tom had George’s phone number so he could be in touch!
  3. Aaron and his team were at the central bus station, expecting some problems but praying that they would be protected. They were surrounded by many religious people, but had no problems until a minute before they finished when the anti-missionaries showed up. At that point there was nothing for our opponents to do. The good news is that one of our volunteers got 10 contacts on that outing!
  4. Susan and her team were at the Tel Aviv University and though there weren’t many people, they had several good conversations. Yoel recognized a local anti-missionary leader show up, who started shouting “Missionary, missionary!” Several shouters were just inches from Susan’s face. Susan’s impression was that the anti-missionaries were frustrated because the team didn’t show any fear. While surrounded, Susan was able to hand out a few tracts, under the anti-missionary’s arms. Some of the general public was clearly annoyed by the anti-missionaries.
  5. Ofer met a woman who said that in trying to call a bank, she kept getting us instead, which made her wonder if perhaps God was trying to get through to her. After a good conversation, she gave her contact information.
  6. Keep them in your prayers and let’s remember they are the true olive branches! Let’s pray for their eyes to be opened to the Word and for them to be grafted back into the tree.
